The Modern Library's Top 100 Novels

Like all lists, take it with a grain of salt. What's interesting about this one is that they list the Board's top 100 with the reader's top 100.

Personally, any list that is topped with either Joyce's Ulysses or Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged is suspect, but included here as a thought experiment.

Complete lists here.

  1. Too many Tea Party folks voting for exactly the same book, while the rest of society's choices are spread out.

Curious to see that the Board puts Under the Volcano at Number 11. I thought it very poor/overrated when I read it. But somehow, it has stuck with me much longer than other books I read around the same time.

The Times (UK) has a pretty decent list of the 100 best books of the past decade. Though when you are talking about 100 books from a single decade, I suppose most lists will have approximately the same titles.
