Chad Finn makes the argument that - so far, at least - he's having one of the worst seasons by an outfielder in Red Sox history. Hard to believe it, but he's got some numbers to back it up.
The key, of course, is that one of the criteria is, " while having enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title." If anyone else had been playing as poorly as Crawford, especially early in the season, they would have gotten pulled. Even J.D. Drew got pulled this year. But the team has stood by Crawford, no doubt because this is the first of his seven year contract. To show a lack of confidence in him now would likely haunt us for years to come.
